This video shows the technique of earwax removal by syringing with warm water at body temperature. It is suitable to be performed for a softer wax or in whom earwax softening solution has been instilled earlier. It should not be done in those suspected to have eardrum perforaton (suggested by history of repeated mucopurulent ear discharge). The stream of water jet is directed posterosuperiorly along the ear passage. The residual water should be mopp or suck out. Potential complication includes perforation of the eardrum and vertigo (caloric effect on the vestibular system). This procedure is commonly performed in an outpatient otolaryngology clinic by the ent surgeon or by qualified health professionals in private practice. Previously, this procedure was performed by using a Higginson's syringe but nowadays electrical-driven water-jet irrigator with controlled water temperature is available to have it done more eleganty.
